Whitney Jones Still Leading The Sooners Despite Injury

Just nine games into her final season at the University of Oklahoma, senior Whitney Jones' career for the OU Women's Basketball team came to an end.  A torn left ACL suffered during a game against North Texas on December 6th would be the final time she took the court for the Sooners.

But the injury didn't mean she was done being an inspiration for her teammates.  Jones, a two-year captain, has been at almost every practice since the injury, helping coach Sherri Coale and her teammates by being an extra set of eyes on the sideline.

Coach Coale says it has to be tough for Jones to stand and watch her best friends play, when everyone knows she'd give anything to be out there - but Whitney says there's no where else she'd rather be.  If she can't be playing, she wants to be as involved as she can be.

Off the court, getting through her second torn ACL hasn't been easy - Jones says there are definitely tough nights.  She credits her family and her husband, former OU Quarterback Landry Jones, for helping her get through the down times.  An emotional Whitney says that Landry has shown her a type of patient love that she didn't knew existed.

You can bet Jones will be a vocal leader on Sunday, when her Sooners take on second-seeded Tennessee in the Women's NCAA Sweet 16.  That game tips off at 3:35 PM from Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City.
