The National Weather Service has classified a tornado that touched down this weekend near Sallisaw as an EF-1.

The tornado touched down at 11:20 p.m. about three miles southwest of Sallisaw in Sequoyah County.

It was on the ground for about half a mile and destroyed several barns and outbuilding in addition to damaging the roof and windows of a home, according to a Weather Service report.

The tornado also took out power poles and tree limbs.

A rating of EF-1 means the tornado had wins of 86 to 110 mph.

The National Weather Service is still examining storm damage that occurred Saturday night near Fort Gibson to see if a tornado touched down there as well.
