Tulsa Organization Helping Homeless into New Homes

Posted: Updated:

One Tulsa organization is asking the community to help them collect supplies for the homeless in the area.

The Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless are continuing their efforts in helping the homeless start over again through their House Warming Project. The project is an effort to assist the homeless into their own place by donating basic household items.

According to their website, "400 people seek shelter and services each day at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, which is the only day-time shelter in Tulsa for people who are homeless or in need."

The boxes will then be sent out to the individuals as they start over in their new apartment or home. Some of the items the shelter is asking the public for include:

   - Plates, bowls and cups/mugs

   - Drinking glasses

   - Forks, knives and spoons

   - Ladles, spatulas and large spoons

   - Dish washing liquid

   - Blankets

   - Alarm clocks

Those who donate any or all of these items, new or gently used, will make a difference in the individual's chance at successfully living on their own, according to the release. Those items listed above are just a few of what the center is hoping to get from the community.

"The Day Center, through the support of our community, has been able to give each of the over 200 people moving on and up each year a much needed Housewarming Box."
