Will Diseases Be Definitively Linked to Dr. Harrington?

Posted: Updated:

Nothing has been proven conclusive, nothing except the number of Dr. Harrington's former patients who have been diagnosed with either Hepatitis or HIV.

"I was really hoping that wouldn't be the answer that came out of the testing," said Dr. Brad Hoopes, President of the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry. What's next to find out if the diseases came from Dr. Harrington's practice?

"They can genetically test the virus and I don't know if it's 100% but they can pretty much determine if it's the same virus being transmitted from one patient to another," he said.

In the meantime, for those newly diagnosed...

"Hepatitis C can take years to cause it's damage," said Dr. Austin Sibley.

The liver disease can be very subtle, with many people not even aware something is wrong.

"They may have some viral like symptoms that last for a month or two, very vague symptoms if they have any at all," he said.

Over time Hepatitis can result in jaundice, bleeding problems, even cancer. Expensive medications can manage it, but entail giving up alcohol.

"It becomes a chronic problem with slow liver damage over time, 10, 15, 20 years," he said.

As for the future of Dr. Harrington? For him to get his license back what would he have to show to the board? "That would be difficult at this point.," said Dr. Hoopes. "Just based on what you've already seen?" asked News Channel 8. "Yes," he said.
