Sheriff Reopens 1978 Sallisaw Murder Cold Case

Posted: Updated:

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says he's reopened an investigation into a 35-year-old unsolved slaying.

The body of 35-year-old Sandra Carter Davis was found by hunters on Wild Horse Mountain on Thanksgiving Day, 1978 - six months after she was last seen leaving a bar in Sallisaw.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart says Davis was stabbed to death.

Davis' daughter - Kristi Soileau - asked Lockhart to reopen the case after the recent arrest of a man for an unrelated 1997 slaying.

Lockhart told reporters that the case file provided some leads and that DNA from the crime is being tested.
