There are dozens of events happening all weekend and the cooler temperatures may cause problems for some of them. Representatives with the Bixby BBQ n' Blues say they haven't seen these cold temps before.
"In 12 years that we have done this festival it's never been this cold," says President Rotary Club of Bixby, Mark Musser, "We have had high winds we have all kinds of crazy things out here for the festival some hot days but never cold days."
So they have asked their vendors to make sure they have coffee and hot chocolate on hand to sell to keep people warm. They also have several tents set up so people can get out of the cold air.
There are some events Friday night that have people excited to see the colder weather than in years past.
"I am actually looking forward to because usually it's really hot. So, you know 55 degrees is perfect for running, you couldn't ask for better weather," says Kate Critchfield, Fleet Feet Events Coordinator.
The Cinco De Mayo Run already has one thousand adults signed up and 750 elementary students signed up. Fleet Feet is giving cash prizes to the physical education program at the four elementary schools that bring the most student runners. Critchfield says they have seen the event grow in the past 10 years and want their runners to be ready for the cooler weather.
"Just like you would normally do. Dress appropriately. Usually once you get out there and moving you don't have to bundle up completely, just be sensible about your attire," says Critchfield.
If you are heading out to just watch the run or eat some tasty barbeque, you might want to dress in layers and bring a blanket.
Since both of these events are fundraiser they hope people will still come out.
"I want them to come out in droves," says Critchfield.
The Cinco De Mayo 5k run starts at 7 pm Friday May 3 at Veterans Park.
The Bixby BBQ n' Blues is Friday, May 3, 5 p.m. till 11p.m. and again on Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m. till 11 p.m.
