FOP Poll - Tulsans Want More Cops

In the field their decisions are often made in the blink of an eye, but when it came to picking a candidate to back for mayor...

"We decided we couldn't endorse just one," said FOP president Clay Ballenger.

The Tulsa Fraternal Order of police, keeping their options open, and doling out praise equally.

"They all had their strong points, we think they're all strong leaders. I think they understand our issues and we think we can work with all of them," he said.

How do the candidates feel about a lack of a single endorsement?

"It's no big deal really, the FOP and I have had a great relationship over the years,"said Bill Christiansen.

"I actually like the fact that they didn't endorse because they're putting the police priorities ahead of politics and I think it's a great thing," said Bartlett campaign manager Daniel Patten.

To get a glimpse of what Tulsans think about the candidates, the FOP commissioned of a poll of 500 likely voters, from April 15 to 16th, which found Taylor slightly ahead of Bartlett, who was ahead of Christiansen.

"I think this next 30 days will turn the tide and I'll be successful," said Christiansen.

"We've seen in kind of some of our personal polls a shift further in our direction," said Bartlett.

From the Bartlett camp, a view of Christiansen as a voter drain, and that if he wasn't in this race...

"If Christiansen wasn't in this I'd have 33 days of employment left," said Patten.

"Well, I am of the opinion that if I weren't in this race, Kathy Taylor would be the mayor in 30 days, no question about it, no doubt in my mind," said Christiansen.
