A female bus driver for the Shelby County Board of Education was arrested earlier this week for driving under the influence.

Debra Rigsby Palmer, 54, was arrested Tuesday by a Helena Police officer on Hillsboro Parkway at 6:23 a.m.  Palmer was driving a 2004 Toyota Sequoia at the time of her arrest, according to a police report.

Shelby County Schools spokeswoman Cindy Warner released the following statement regarding the arrest Friday:

"A Shelby County bus driver has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest for DUI while driving a personal vehicle off campus.  The school district recognizes the gravity of the situation and is taking all necessary steps to address this issue."

Information relating to Palmer's bus route and the schools she serviced has not yet been released.
