Hursh, OSU Take First Game Of Bedlam Series In Tulsa
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State each had their clutch hits. The Cowboys just had more as they beat the Sooners 4-3 in Game 1 of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series Friday at ONEOK Field. All seven runs were scored on two-out RBIs.
Oklahoma (34-15, 11-8 Big 12) put its runs on the scoreboard with one swing by junior second baseman Hector Lorenzana in the fourth inning. Lorenzana drove a 1-2 fastball towards downtown Tulsa, flipping outfielder Zach Fish into his team’s bullpen past the right field fence and scoring Max White and Hunter Haley.
The Sooners never put another runner into scoring position.
Oklahoma State evened the score in the next half inning. The fifth began with a leadoff walk by Trey Whaley and double by Gage Green. Three at-bats later, Tanner Krietemeier singled to center field to plate the duo.
Cowboys third baseman Robbie Rea led off the eighth with a single to right field and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. OU reliever Ethan Carnes (2-3) forced a line out the next at-bat but was then hit into left center by Green for the game-winning run.
Oklahoma State’s Jason Hursh (5-4) pitched a complete game, recording a season-high nine strikeouts to just one walk.
The two teams meet for round two Saturday at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. OU’s ace Jonathan Gray (8-1, 1.20 ERA) is expected to face OSU’s Tyler Nurdin (2-2, 1.89 ERA).
