Harrington Case, 1 More Patient Tests Positive for Hepatitis B

Posted: Updated:

Thousands have been tested for HIV and hepatitis due to unsanitary dental practices.

According to the Tulsa Health Department, following a fifth round of testing, only one new case of hepatitis B has been confirmed.

To date, five patients have tested positive for hepatitis B, 70 for hepatitis C and three for HIV.

According to the department, 3,837 people have visited various health departments in Oklahoma to be tested. An unknown number of people have been tested through their private health care provider.

Tests for 3,899 people have been completed by the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Public Health Laboratory as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15.

According to the health department, "The discrepancy is due to the lab also testing people from other states, private physicians and local county health departments."

Genetic tests will be done to see if the strains were contracted due to Dr. Scott Harrington's dental practice.
