Moore Residents Sifting Through The Rubble

Posted: Updated:

The sights are surreal. The red car angled up on the school. The pickup truck turned into a makeshift ambulance. The man quietly sitting on top of what's left of his two-story house.

"I looked out the front door and I seen the stuff circling," said David Estep. He was buried alive, calling 9-1-1 to direct emergency personnel to the remains of the kitchen he was trapped in.

I had a refrigerator over my head here, I had cabinets and doors down on my chest, and my feet were covered up with the stove," he said.

And he was one of the lucky ones. A half a block away...

"They're in their 50's, it's Paula and Jerry Mars," said Brandy, looking for her aunt and uncle with the help of some neighbors.

"It's nice of everybody to come and dig through, I really hope they find them, alive," she said.

Meanwhile, back near David's house.

"Just sick to my stomach, I mean, you know," said Jeff Kizer, his home destroyed and his pickup truck?

"My truck is on my neighbors house across the street, sitting upside down, see my brand new tires, just put brand new tires on that thing," he said.

Even more stunning is that he's already back at work for a utility company.

"I could sit and worry about it, I could cry, it's not going to do me any good, I gotta just pull up my pants, put on my boots and get after it.," he said.

A spirit of resilience already blooming from a mangled landscape.
