A suspect was shot and killed by an Oklahoma City police officer during a gunfight Wednesday evening.

It started when police responded to a fight involving four people in the 2400 block of NE 26th St around 4:30 p.m.

After the first officer, Sgt. Daniel Godsil, arrived on scene, he was alerted about the approach of an armed subject a block away.

The shooter leveled a rifle at the officer and started firing at him, according to OCPD, and the officer returned fire, hitting him.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Kenneth Dewayne Cooper, died on the way to the hospital.

The involved officer is identified as 10 year patrol veteran Sgt. Daniel Godsil.

Several people witnessed the incident which is under investigation by the OCPD Homicide Unit and the Office of Internal Affairs.

Sgt. Godsil was placed on paid administrative leave which is customary during an officer involved shooting investigation.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney will review the investigation upon its conclusion.
