The Glenpool Chamber of Commerce expects 10,000 people this weekend for its 35th annual "Black Gold Days." The festival celebrates when the city struck oil.

Chamber President Jennifer Cook said the event usually brings about 7,000 or 8,000 people. However, she said the Chamber employed a variety of new strategies to encourage even more people to attend.

"This year, Facebook and Twitter, and all that kind of stuff, we really have hit it hard," Cook said. "Our blog, we've been keeping up to date. We've got a new website. So, online and social media stuff has definitely been a bigger deal for us."

Also, Cook said coverage from TV and radio stations has helped draw a substantial crowd. Similarly, she said the headliner for Saturday night's concert is sure to encourage a large attendance. Country singer Keith Anderson will be performing at 8:30 p.m. for free in Black Gold Park.

In addition to music, the event offers rides, food, shopping, a parade, and other performances and competitions.

Riley Christian has been attending the event since childhood and commented on its growth.

"The rides have expanded, and the booths, and everything pretty much," Christian said.

The festival runs through early Sunday evening.
