Sand Springs Police arrested a man suspected of being involved with the attempted rape of a woman Sunday, June 23.

SSPD stated in a press conference Friday evening, that 49-year-old Steven Ray Bowes of Tulsa was arrested for the attempted rape of a 20-year-old woman earlier this week.

In Bowes' booking report, detectives were given consent to enter his residence and examine his clothing, bike and living area. Detectives recovered the bike, a blue baseball cap, cargo shorts with a red substance, a toy gun and several knives from Bowes' home.

According to the press release, Bowes was arrested on an outstanding Sand Springs municipal warrant for an occupied dwelling unfit for habitation.

Bowes was also interviewed about the attempted rape and after enough evidence was gathered, was arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and attempted forcible sodomy.

After being read his Miranda Rights while being interviewed, Bowes confessed to kidnapping the woman.

Police said that around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, the woman was approached by a Bowes near an overpass in River City Park. Bowes showed her a gun and led her to the woods, where he attempted to force her to perform sexual acts.

Bowes pulled out a knife and the victim then began to fight for control of the weapon. According to police, the victim sustained a cut to her hand, but believed Bowes may have also been stabbed in the leg during the fight.

According to the report, Bowes had been stabbed in his left thigh area after attempting to force the woman to perform oral sex on him.

More information from the press conference will be updated shortly.
