Bill Self Inducted Into The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame

Posted: Updated:

Former ORU and Tulsa head basketball coach Bill Self was back in Oklahoma Monday night. The current Kansas head coach is one of six new members of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.

The Edmond native played at Oklahoma State from 1981-1984.

Self began his head coaching career at Oral Roberts University. In his four years at ORU he accumulated a 55-54 record. He then moved across town to the University of Tulsa where he led the Golden Hurricane to the NCAA Elite 8 in 2000.

Self had a 78-24 mark in his three season at Illinois before he landed in Lawrence where he's been for the last nine years. The Jayhawks won the 2008 National Championship under Bill Self.

Also joining the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame tonight were Oklahoma City Thunder owner Clay Bennett, Nadia Comaneci, OU wrestler Wayne Baughman, OCU football player Leroy "Ace" Gutowsky and two-sport star John Henry Ward.

Ward wrestled and played football for the Cowboys. He was also a Tulsa Rogers graduate.
