Baby Veronica Case: Capobianco's Seek to Reunite with Girl

Posted: Updated:

Representatives on each side of the "Baby Veronica" adoption battle are continuing attempted discussions this week.

Several statements have been issued from those representing Dusten Brown, Matt and Melanie Capobianco, the Cherokee Nation and Governors Mary Fallin and Nikki Haley. As of Thursday morning, the Capobiancos have yet to meet with Veronica or Brown, her biological father.

Attorneys Clark Brewster and Robert Nigh Jr., representing Brown, said they want a resolution that is in the girl's best interest. Both agree with the Capobianco's when it comes to Veronica's best interests being the most important consideration.

On Wednesday the attorneys stated they will reach out to attorneys for the Capobianco's to see if a resolution is possible. They added that they believe a determination of Veronica's best interests should be made by a court in Oklahoma, where she has lived for 19 months.

A representative for the Capobianco's stated that Veronica's adoptive parents are still working with Brown's attorneys to meet with the young girl. According to the statement, both "continue pursuing the option of facilitation aside from ongoing legal actions."

Following a press conference in downtown Tulsa with the Capobianco's, Governor Mary Fallin's office released her own statement regarding the extradition request submitted by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. It read:

“Mr. and Mrs. Capobianco deserve an opportunity to meet with their adopted daughter. They also deserve the chance to meet with Mr. Brown and put an end to this conflict. It is important for Veronica’s sake that Mr. Brown and the Capobianco family resolve this matter quickly and grant closure to all parties. If Mr. Brown is unwilling to cooperate with these reasonable expectations, then I will be forced to expedite his extradition request and let the issue be settled in court.”
