Update, Wednesday:

COLCORD, Okla. (AP) - Schools will remained closed through Labor Day for a town in northeast Oklahoma after city officials discovered worms in the municipal water tower.

The worms showed up in the drinking water supply in Colcord, a town of 815 people about 80 miles east of Tulsa. Vice Mayor Cody Gibby says the worms are a type of earthworm that range from a half-inch to an inch long.

Colcord Public Schools told KTUL that classes will remained canceled through Labor Day.

Gibby says the worms are passing through water filters and getting into distribution lines. The town shut off its drinking water Tuesday night with plans to flush the water system out and scrub the water tower clean.

Bottled water is available for residents provided by the City.

The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma will distribute pantry boxes, produce and pastries to people in need from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Colcord Senior Citizens Center.

They will also provide three pallets of bottled water to residents.
