Posted: Updated:
The Tulsa Police Department has received a grant for more than half a million dollars to help fight back against violent crime in our community.

The grant is from the Attorney General's Safe Oklahoma grants, awarded to several state law enforcement agencies, including the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

TPD's total award amount is $625,000, which officials said will go toward increased staffing on an overtime basis to patrol gang hot spots and purchasing new equipment to investigate criminals

It will also help them focus aggressively on crimes including aggravated assault with a firearm, domestic violence and sex offenders.

Chief Chuck Jordan said, "We are very appreciative that Attorney General Pruitt included the Tulsa Police Department in this endeavor."

Other recipients include the Oklahoma City Police Dept., Oklahoma City Sheriff's Office and Ada Police Department.
