Suspect Injures Elderly Woman During Walgreens Robbery

Posted: Updated:

Officers arrested a man accused of robbing an elderly woman of her purse Tuesday morning outside a Walgreens in south Tulsa.

Tulsa Police placed the suspect into custody around 7 a.m. north of the Walgreens on 81st and Lewis. At the scene he reportedly snatched the woman's purse and fled to an apartment complex.

An officer at the scene told KTUL that it all began when the male suspect, later identified as Keonte Spencer, 19, entered the store and handed the clerk a note. On the note a message was written telling the clerk to give her money or there would "be a shooting."

When he was told the register wasn't open and couldn't get any money, Spencer reportedly took the note back and left the store. Once outside, he encountered the older lady and grabbed the purse she had been carrying over her shoulder.

Witnesses told police he ran northbound into an apartment complex. An officer at the scene stated they were able to locate him hiding in an alley.

All stolen items were recovered and no weapons were discovered on his person.

Spencer is now being held at the Tulsa Co. Jail on a $100,000 bond, charged with robbery by force & fear and attempted robbery by force & fear.
