An explosion south of Bristow killed one person and sent another to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Deputies from the Creek County Sheriff's Office, units from Bristow Police and crews from Bristow Fire Department responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m.

It happened in an area about seven miles south of Bristow, off of Highway 48.

According to a Creek Co. Sheriff's Deputy on scene, two workers were called out to a leaking oil tanker battery and were transferring oil from one to another when the explosion occurred.

There is no word on what may have caused it just yet.

One man was taken by Life Flight to a hospital; the other man was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

The fire is contained, officials said.

Tulsa's Channel 8 has a crew on scene and will continue to update this developing story.
