Sand Springs Father Pleads Not Guilty to Murder, Kidnapping Charges

Posted: Updated:

A Sand Springs man appeared last week in an Osage County courtroom on charges of first degree murder and child endangerment.

Appearing before a judge at the Osage County Courthouse, Robert Leroy Conner III pleaded not guilty on Aug. 28. He is accused of killing his mother and kidnapping his 6-year-old son.

According to a report from Tulsa's Channel 8's community newspaper partner, the Wagoner Tribune, Connor appeared on a video monitor and during his arraignment. He was ordered to be held without bond.

On Aug. 20, Connor allegedly shot his mother, Deborah Ann Connor, to death in her Osage County home after an argument and fled to Texas with his 6-year old son. He was later apprehended by Lewisville, Texas Police and the boy was unharmed.

Connor’s family said he was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2004 and was off of his medication when the murder occurred.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that can cause auditory hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking and paranoia.

Connor was extradited from Texas on Aug. 27.
