Owasso Makes Its Mark with Second Gathering on Main

Posted: Updated:
Several Owasso small business owners organized the second annual Gathering on Main Thursday. It is an event meant to bring Owasso's community together, boost small business, and help forge a stronger city identity.

Amy Thomas co-owns Peak Wellness, a chiropractic and nutrition facility on Main Street. She is among the small group of business owners who pioneered the event last month. It drew about 4,500 people.

"We ran out of food, which was a good problem, but this month, we have a lot more facilities-wise. We're a lot more prepared," Thomas said.

Thomas organizes the vendors for the event. She and other organizers said they expect to see an even bigger crowd at Thursday's Gathering on Main since "the word is out."

There is more than a dozen food trucks at Thursday's event. There are also a variety of local vendors selling different products and live music.

Thomas said each month's event aims to target a different theme. Thursday's event centers around the Owasso Rams' first football game this weekend. The high school's football team, band, and cheerleaders performed.

"It brings everyone, like Owasso, together," said senior cheerleader Rachel Dunaway. She said she frequently travels to Tulsa for a variety of public events. Gathering on Main offers a similar opportunity in her backyard.

Many of the organizers are from out of state. Thomas said they have seen successes with these types of events elsewhere and hope Gathering on Main can help brand Owasso and bring more business to the area.

Gathering on Main takes place on the first Thursday of each month.
