Investigators are releasing more information about the death of a man Thursday after he was shot following an attempted robbery.
Tulsa Police stated that an initial investigation has determined that the man, identified as Aaron Warner, was shot during an armed robbery near the area of the Georgetown Motel just after 8 a.m. Officers believe his accomplice, Elbert Hendrickson, fired the fatal gunshot.
According to the release, Warner and Hendrickson committed a robbery at the motel and were chased by the victim. Warner was caught by the victim and Hendrickson fired the gun at the victim hitting Warner instead.
Investigators stated that the Hendrickson took Warner to a residence near 120th E. Avenue where he notified Warner's girlfriend that he had been shot. She called 911 and pulled over into the parking lot of Academy Sports near I-44 and Lewis Avenue.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 9 a.m.
According to the release, investigators turned their focus on Hendrickson and locating the escape vehicle, a red Ford Mustang. Homicide Detectives were assisted in this investigation from the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force, Tulsa Police Department Organized Gang Unit and the Tulsa Police Burglary Unit.
Surveillance teams were able to locate Hendrickson at a residence in Tulsa. He was taken into custody moments later and booked on felony murder and shooting with intent to kill.
