OU Prepares For Notre Dame

Posted: Updated:

Two of the most storied programs in college football history are set to square off Saturday in South Bend, when No. 12 Oklahoma takes on No. 22 Notre Dame.  One season ago, the Irish waltzed into Norman & left with a 30-13 win. That loss has left the Sooners wanting a little revenge.

"A little bit, yeah," fullback Trey Millard says.  "Revenge kind of goes into it, but we just know that we need to come ready to play. If you play emotional, you start making mistakes off revenge, or trying to get someone's number.  That's not the type of team we want to be.  We want to play more steady - emotion will definitely be a part of it - but you have to control that."

OU gave up a few big plays last year, which ultimately decided the game. According to linebacker Corey Nelson, this years defensive unit is vastly different than the one that was gashed by the Irish last season.

"I feel like we trust one another," Nelson says.  "I feel like we're more of a family out there this year defensively.  I also feel like a lot of guys want it, you know?"

"A lot of guys are putting the program before themselves, and that's what makes us executing so well on defense.  When you have guys like that, it just makes your defense a whole lot better."

Usually players shy away from adding extra pressure to any single game - that wasn't the case today with center Gabe Ikard.

"We've talked about this, this game - you don't want to define a season by one game, but this game could point our season in one direction or the other," Ikard says.

"I think we all realize the magnitude that this game will have on our entire season.  We're really excited to go there and play, we know how talented they are, and we're glad we had an extra week - the bye week - to prepare.  We're going to prepare like we always do and be ready to go on Saturday."

The "season-defining" contest kicks off at 2:30 PM on Saturday - John Moss be there & have a look at what makes Notre Dame so special throughout the day on Friday, as well as a complete post game wrap on Saturday night.
