One of Green Country's oldest and most loved farms is closing Wednesday after opening more than 70 years ago.
Conrad Farms has been a staple in Bixby since 1942. Before that the farm opened and operated in another area back in the late 30s.
In a previous report from KTUL back in July, Conrad Farms made the announcement after brothers Vernon, Eugene and Melvin Conrad agreed it was time to retire. And although the pickings are now slim at the store, the tomatoes are still tasty and the okra is still delicious.
"Women will come in and say my grandma used to bring me down when they were little," Vernon Conrad said.
He and his brother took over the farm. A thriving business that at one time saw a thousand customers a day during peak produce seasons.
Along with ceasing operations at the farm, the Conrad's will be selling all their equipment, most of which has already been sold this week. And when the business closes in the fall the family expects to sell the land to a real estate developer that will most likely build homes on the 400-acre farm.
