2013 Ford Award: Week 3 Nominee

Posted: Updated:

"My name is Marshall Ray. Quarterback number nine for Bixby High School and am interesting fact about my is I like to cook."

Marshall tells me he is a master on the grill.  "It's a good hobby to learn when I go to college so I don't eat Roman noodles."

Marshall has the Bixby Spartans sizzling on the football field as well.  A week ago he threw for 429 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Springdale, AR.  He's helped Bixby to one of their best starts in years at 3-0.

"I have seen that there are more people at the games. More people in the hallways asking about us." Marshall said, "It's been a lot of fun. But at the end of the day we're still going into week one. It's week one because it's district play, so we just got to go out and win and make this season better."

There haven't been too many better than Marshall at the quarterback position this season. He's second in the state in passing yards with over 1,013 yards.  He's thrown 11 touchdown passes with just four interceptions.

Bixby head coach Loren Montgomery calls him Cool Hand Luke.

"I think one of his strongest attributes is he doesn't get you in a bad play. He doesn't turn the ball over a lot, knock on wood. He's calm back there and he understands where he wants to go and he understands what to look at from a defensive read perspective." said Montgomery, "He's dedicated himself to football. The off-season study of film and dedicated himself to training. It's done Marshall well. We see a different player out there this yea. A more experienced player certainly than we saw last year, his junior year. Not that his junior year was bad his junior year was great, but he's developed a little bit further this year."

Marshall and his Bixby Spartans shoot for win number four Friday night against Westmoore.
