A Government Shutdown Will Hurt Health Care

Posted: Updated:

With the congressional deadlock in Washington D.C. a lot of people are concerned about their next visit to the doctor.
Clinics, such as Morton Comprehensive Health Services, help those who don't have insurance or don't have enough.
A government shutdown could force them to make some hard choices.
CEO John Silva tells us about 25% of their budget comes from federal grant money.
If that money is no longer available, it will severely limit the ability to deliver care.
In 2 to 4 weeks they'll have to start making cuts.
Silva says that could include limiting services, closing locations and making staff cutbacks.
He worries that the people who are being forgotten, are the people who are in the worst position to weather the storm.
Everyone in their building, will be keeping a close eye on what happens in Washington.
They're hoping that there's some type of compromise on the way, that will keep their health care coming.
Silva says the congressional stalemate has been keeping him up nights, so he doesn't even want to think about what's going to happen.
He says in a month, their entire health care system will be compromised.
