Police are looking for a suspect Friday after he reportedly posed as a city work to enter an elderly woman's home and steal from her.
Tulsa Police stated that earlier Friday the suspect knocked on the door of the elderly homeowner in the area of 4300 S. Norfolk Avenue inquiring about the water pressure in her home.
According to the release, the suspect reportedly told the woman he needed to "verify that the water pressure in her home was working properly."
Officer state that she was told the water pressure was not working properly and she would need to purchase a $65.00 dollar piece of equipment to fix the issue.
Police described in a release that the woman offered to give the suspect the money immediately but he refused. Instead, he followed the victim into the home and while she was distracted he removed her wallet from her purse.
"The victim did not discover that her wallet was missing until the suspect had left the home"
Officers describe the suspect as being a white male with a white van with Missouri license tags.
Additionally, police advise residents of the following message:
"City of Tulsa employees sometimes must contact citizens at their homes to notify them of water service interruptions, temporary street closures, water leaks or other situations. All City of Tulsa field employees have employee uniform shirts and carry photo identification cards identifying them as City employees and specifying for which department they work."
Citizens who are contacted by anyone identifying themselves as a City employee but who cannot show proper identification, may contact the Tulsa Police Department or the Customer Care Center (918) 596-2100 to report the incident.
