Sales Tax Extension Fails for Proposed Glenpool Sports Facility

Posted: Updated:

Glenpool city officials received word Tuesday evening that an extension to a sales tax ordinance failed.

Residents in Glenpool took to the polls Tuesday to vote on a bond issue that would help fund a multiplex sports facility. And when the votes were counted 49 percent votes "yes" while 51 percent voted "no."

According to a report from the Glenpool Post earlier this week, Glenpool City Council met Monday afternoon to approve a resolution declaring the money from the sale tax extension would solely be used for the proposed sports facility.

The resolution also stated that if this purpose is not effected on or before the effective date of Jan. 1, 2017, the sales tax ordinance will be rescinded in its entirety and no sales tax will be collected.

Tulsa County Election board stated around 8 p.m. that with all six precincts completely reporting, the sales tax extension has failed to pass.

Out of 1,018 votes, 49.2 percent voted yes and 50.8 percent voted no, according to The Glenpool Post.
