Nowata Sheriff's Office Looking for Suspects in Cattle Shootings

Posted: Updated:

Nowata authorities are looking for information this week after several cows were shot and killed.

Ranchers in Nowata County told officers that someone has been shooting their livestock for the past two months. The latest incident occured last weekend.

According to a report from the Associated Press, the deaths of the livestock have cost them thousands of dollars. One particular Black Angus cost a rancher approximately $2,000.

Sheriff James Hallet stated that in one case, a young girl's pet llama was shot and in another - the calf of a 12-year-old boy was killed.

Hallet says he suspects the person, or persons, responsible are local because the killings have been relatively close together.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
