Oklahoma Officially Incorporates Newest Town in Pittsburg County

Posted: Updated:

One of Oklahoma's newest towns is located south of Tulsa in Pittsburg County.

Those looking for Carlton Landing can find it by traveling south from Tulsa, heading north on Highway 69 from McAlester and south of the SH-9 and SH-9A intersection. Or you can just Google it for more accurate directions.

But it's at Carlton Landing where Oklahoma officially incorporated its newest town with a population of 56. And the community's founder, Grant Humphreys, told media the town is "growing fast."

Pittsburg County commissioners approved the incorporation of Carlton Landing after voters approved the proposition during a special election earlier this month.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Humphreys said up to 60 new homes are expected to be built within the next year in Carlton Landing.

Humphreys added that the new community on Lake Eufaula covers 1,650 acres. Officials say the town could eventually receive sales tax revenue now that it's incorporated, according to the Associated Press.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
