Animal Organizations Advise Cat Owners of Halloween Dangers

Posted: Updated:

Animal organizations are advising all those who own cats to remain alert this week.

Halloween is just a day away and with it brings candy, costumes and plenty of excitement. But those who have cats as pets should keep in mind that the holiday also brings some dangers.

Terry Walker with the Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told KTUL that Halloween is around the time her organization keeps a closer eye on black cats at the shelter.

"We will adopt them out but we scrutinize applicants very closely," Walker said. She said in the past the animals have been targeted by cult groups.

White cats and dogs are often targeted when black ones aren't readily available.

"Keep them inside right now...keep an eye on them and they will be fine," Walker said.
