Governor Defends A-F Grade System, While Debates Continue

Posted: Updated:

The state has delayed releasing report cards with the latest A-F rating for schools and now Governor Mary Fallin's office warns critics the squabbling over the system is hurting education's credibility and could hurt state funding.

A spokesperson for Governor Mary Fallin says some legislators maybe reluctant to fund a system that has been widely reported as flawed.

School leaders like Dr. Keith Ballard say Tulsa schools have made improvements, according to their district assessments. But he is putting a report together of the unofficial results.

"We have five or six elementary schools that showed dramatic improvement over last year and went from a D to an F. That's going to say it all, about this formula," said Ballard.

The state school board will meet on Wednesday. The school letter grades are expected to be released later that day.
