Organization To Help Animal Victims Of Disasters

Posted: Updated:

A Tulsa group spent the weekend raising money to help animals impacted by disasters.

It's called Paws And Claws Disaster Response. Organizers say they will do for animals what the Red Cross does for people.

Workers will go into a disaster area, coordinate search and rescue efforts, care for wounded animals, conduct lost and found searches, and coordinate volunteers.

Organizers say they got the idea after heading to Moore and Shawnee after the tornadoes there. They were not able to launch an organized effort and kept hitting road blocks.

A fundraiser at the Jenks Riverwalk is kicking off their efforts to get their plan off the ground.

Their next event will be in the spring. If all goes well, they hope to take this effort nationwide.
