Cherokee County authorities are looking for a suspect accused of shooting and injuring a deer hunter last weekend.
Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office told KTUL that John Mason was shot in the upper arm and shoulder area by an unknown suspect. It happened last Friday in a wooded area near Welling.
According to a statement from CCSO, Mason was with his father at the time and was able to be transported to a Tahlequah hospital. He was later transported to a Tulsa hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
Investigators are now looking for a red Dodge four-door pickup believed to have been in the area at the time of the shooting. No suspect description was provided.
Deputies with the CCSO are being assisted in the investigation by wardens with the Oklahoma Wildlife Department. Evidence at the scene of the shooting is being investigated at this time.
