Jenks Looks To Hang On To The Gold Ball

Posted: Updated:

Six high school football teams will be crowned Oklahoma State Champions this weekend, including in the largest class.  Jenks and Union will square off in the Class 6A finals for the ninth time.  Out of the previous eight meetings between these two arch-rivals in the championship game the record is 4-4.

These two programs are the benchmark for high school football in the state of Oklahoma.

After watching Union win four straight 6A titles, Allan Trimble's Jenks Trojans regained the gold ball last year for a 13th time.  He says his seniors aren't ready to give it back.

"It was tough. Union had come off four in-a-row and it was a tough battle." said Trimble, "Our kids with great senior leadership were able to battle in the playoffs and do it.  I know this senior bunch with as big a role as they've played don't want that gold ball to go away.  They'll fight hard and be ready and when you throw the rivalry in the mix and it just makes for a good game."

The Class 6A Championship game is schedule for 7:00pm Thursday night in Stillwater, but there is a chance it could get moved to Tulsa.  I'm told that the OSSAA has been in talks with the University of Tulsa to play the game at Chapman Stadium if weather doesn't allow it to take place at Boone Pickens Stadium.  If played in Tulsa, it looks like it will be either Friday or Saturday night.  There is an outside shot it could be played Monday after the weekend.
