A semi-truck crashed into Lake Eufaula on Interstate 40 near Checotah.

Two people were in the truck when they were driving on a bridge over Lake Eufaula when they lost control.

After leaving the bridge they went through both guardrails along the median and crossed into westbound traffic.

They went through another guardrail and down a 40 foot embankment.

The truck stopped with the front of the cab in the cold muddy water. Another few feet and they would have been under water.

The truck was pulled up enough to get it out of the water and both passengers escaped with only minor injuries, troopers said.

Interstate 40 was shut down for 20 minutes and reopened at 10 a.m.
