Completed Merger Takes American Airlines Higher

For area leaders today is a celebration.

"This will be the maintenance hub of the largest airline in the world and isn't that a terrific opportunity for the city of Tulsa," says Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett.

The new american appears to have possibilities.

"It's a very talented workforce with phenomenal facilities," says American's Dave Seymour.

But US Airways is known for reducing labor costs through outsourcing maintenance and that's a concern for employees which the company addresses.

"US Airways did a lot of outsourcing just came out of a peak period of heavy maintenance so the amount of outsourcing is actually going to be dropping as we get into 2014 but what we want to do at some point is start reassessing where we are and the capabilities," says Dave Seymour, with the new American Airlines.

"I'm not the least bit worried about outsourcing" says Chamber President Mike Neal who adds, "I think you'll see more work here obviously we've got to be competitive, workers have to be competitive and continue to produce but I think we have a very positive and bullish outcome."

"Not" celebrating the completed merger today....TWU's 514. There are many questions about the future and very few wins.

"If anybody's happy it's that we are finally moving to the point that we have pay raises we have stock options we have a few things that are beneficial to everybody's family but once the honeymoon's over then it's back to worrying about how long is my job going to last," says Danker.
