Bartlesville authorities remain on the scene at the high school after a suspicious backpack was found Wednesday afternoon.
Officers with the Bartlesville Police Department were sent to Bartlesville High School after receiving word of the backpack in the hallway. This was just before 2 p.m.
According to a statement from BPD, the school was placed on locked and officers have detained the owner of the backpack. All students were sent home after 3 p.m.
"It does not appear any threats have been made and it is being considered a suspicious incident at this time," according to BPD.
Members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb square are being sent to Bartlesville to assist in the investigation.
Update 4:50 p.m.: Police officers cleared the scene at the high school after deeming the backpack safe. The backpack was checked by OHP and only school supplies were found. According to the BPD Facebook page, "The student has been released and a suspicious incident report made."
The Facebook post also states that no threats or weapons were involved in this incident.
