Jenks Beats Union To Win Their 14th State Championship

The Jenks Trojans and the Union Redskins met in the Class 6A State Championship game Thursday night at Chapman Stadium in Tulsa.  It was the ninth time these two Oklahoma High School powerhouses have square off with the gold ball on line.  In their previous eight games both teams had won four a piece.  The Trojans 38-22 victory gives the the 5-4 edge.

Union jumped out to an early lead on their first possession of the game.  Mason Farquhar kept the ball and raced 56-yards for the games first touchdown and it was 7-0 Redskins.

Jenks answered right back on their next drive.  They went 80 yards on five plays.  Cameron Booty scored from 12 yards out to tie the game at 7-7.  The Trojans defense stepped up and forced a three and out.  It took only three plays for the Trojans to take the lead 14-7.  Cooper Nunley connected with senior Steven Parker on a 41 yard touchdown toss.  

Nunley was 11-16 for 206 yards and two touchdowns.  Parker was the leading receiver for Jenks with 164 yards on five catches and one touchdown.

After Union failed to convert on a 4th and 1 from their only 29 the Trojans extended their lead to 14 with an 8 yard touchdown run by Booty and the defending champs were up 21-7.

Union continued to battle and drove the field with a ten play drive that covered 80 yards and pulled within a touchdown.  Justin Silmon scored from 17 yards out to make it 21-14 Jenks.  

Tyler Ridener kicked a 24 yard field goal and Nunley scored on an 8 yard run to give the Trojans a 31-14 lead at the break.

In the second half, Jenks took a commanding led on their second possession out of the locker room.  Riley Waldie caught a 2 yard pass from Nunley to put the Trojans up 38-14.

The Redskins score their final touchdown with 8:13 left in the fourth quarter when Farquhar hit Kaylor Pearson on a 7 yard pass play.  Jeffery Mead snagged the two point conversion and Union was down 16 points, 38-22.  Farquhar was 26-40 for 289 yards and one touchdown.  Carson Meier led the way receiving for the Redskins with 108 yards on seven catches.  Jeffery Mead added 91 yards on seven catches.

Union was driving to try to cut into Jenks lead when Steve Parker picked off a Farquhar pass.  The Trojans hold on to win their 14th state championship with the 38-22 victory.

Jenks head coach Allan Trimble has now won eleven state championships since becoming the head coach at Jenks in 1996.  The Trojans total yards for the game was 454 to Union's 369.
