What would you do with the Mega Millions jackpot?

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – It's one of the largest lottery jackpots in history. The Mega Millions jackpot is tallying up to nearly $600 million dollars and growing.

The VGo Gas Station and Food Mart #1 on Savannah Highway in West Ashley is known as one of the luckiest spots around to buy a lottery ticket.

The VGo owners say people have already been lining up to purchase their Mega Millions tickets. The owners say by 3 p.m. Tuesday a line of people are expected to be out the door to buy their lottery tickets before Tuesday night's drawing.

The Mega Millions is quickly approaching to be the longest streak of winless drawings. Since Oct. 1, there have been 21 straight drawings without a winner. But that still has not stopped locals from playing their hand at a chance for the big prize.

"Every time I fill out a lottery ticket I say to myself, ‘I'm going to become the next millionaire,' said lottery winning hopeful, Helen. "You know, play big -- that is how I feel about it."

"I play because if I win I know so many people that need money and charities and so much good things you could do with the money," said Michael Jennings, who purchased a Mega Millions tickets from Food Mart #1 on Monday.

Statisticians say the odds of winning the Mega Millions are astronomical – about one in 259 million. But they also say that eventually someone will end up winning.

If the Mega Millions rolls over two more times without a winner, lottery officials say the prize could be an historic $1 billion. If that's the case, the drawing would take place on Christmas Eve and could mean an estimated $540 million dollar cash payout.

Be sure to watch ABC News 4 at 11 p.m. Tuesday night for the Mega Millions numbers.
