Claremore Says Goodbye After Sudden Death of Mayor

Posted: Updated:

Today is a sad day for the city of Claremore as  they grieve the sudden loss of their mayor. Mickey Perry died from a heart attack Monday night.

For 31 years Mickey Perry patrolled the streets of Claremore, as an officer and as police chief. On Monday, the day he passed away, Perry had served Christmas Dinner to the elderly.

Later that might, Perry sat through a three hour city council meeting, talking about economic development, new utility meters and his city managers evaluation.

Perry was just inducted into the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. But he was known for loving his family and for leading Claremore, as mayor for the last two years.

"I think he'll be remembered most because he loved his family he was a family man first then he gave to law enforcement and back to the city of Claremore,"  Jim Thomas said.

The city and the Perry family are making funeral plans and right now the challenge is finding a venue that can hold all the citizens who want a chance to tell their mayor goodbye.

Mickey Perry was married to Kathy for 44 years and  they had one daughter, and four grandchildren.
