Area roads can be a dangerous place this time of the year and not just because of the winter weather.
Tulsa residents continuing their holiday celebrations should be aware that police are continuing to step up their presence through New Year's Eve.
According to a statement from Tulsa Police, officers will patrol the streets looking for drunk drivers. Additional officers will work undercover inside bars to keep an eye on those that may decide to drive after a night of drinking.
"Overtime funding from a grant with the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office will pay for a majority of the officers involved; however on-duty officers while not on calls will be assisting with this activity."
TPD added that over the past few years fewer people have lost their lives to drunk drivers. And this year they hope to continue that trend.
Reserve officers are also assisting in the operations.
