A Tulsa man is in jail, after allegedly assaulting a woman based on perceived religion.
Now the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is asking the Justice Department for federal charges, as well.
Police say the woman who owns a Bill and Ruth's Deli, near Pine and Peoria, may have parked too close to a Jeep. The owner of the Jeep, 43 year old Stuart Manning reportedly began calling the woman names.
"Hey f***** b**** Muslim, why did you get so close to my car!" That was the statement the victim left in the police report.
Police say Manning went on to slash the tires of the woman, who was wearing a scarf. Police say the man eventually physically attacked her, with his closed fist.
She grabbed his glasses. He took off, police say, s a security guard grabbed Manning's tag number.
"No one should have to deal with situations like this. If you have a disagreement with someone, there are ways to handle that," said Leland Ashley of the Tulsa Police Department.
Manning is now charged with malicious intimidation, assault and battery and for destruction of property.
