Unchain Oklahoma Helps Keep Dogs Warm

Posted: Updated:

Unchain Oklahoma, a program that focuses to make sure dog owners can keep their dogs warm during the winter months, has been especially busy this year as unusually cold temperatures have moved through Green Country.

Members and volunteers of the group assist in re-homing dog houses that aren't being used to the owners of dogs in need.

Patti Kuck is one individual who helps deliver dog houses to individuals who have dogs that might not have shelter or refuge from cold.

"Having a dog house and straw can help be the difference between life and death. Some dogs may not make it through the night in the frigid conditions," Kuck said.

In the summer, Unchain Oklahoma provides shading and relief from the heat.

The organization has been around for three to four years but has taken on the Unchain Oklahoma name in the last year and is now under the umbrella of Oklahoma Alliance for Animals.

Unchain Oklahoma depends on people who call in with a tip about a dog that needs a home.

Individuals can also contact Unchain Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals on Facebook.

Those who want to drop off a dog house can do so at the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals building, located at 1822 East 15th Street.
