Man Struck and Killed by Yukon Police Car

YUKON, Okla. (AP) - Yukon police say an officer on duty and driving a police car struck and killed a man who was walking in a city street.

Capt. Michael Merry says the officer had just left the police department shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday when he struck the man a few blocks from the station. The man was dead at the scene.

The names of the dead man and the officer were not immediately released.

Merry says the man was not in a crosswalk and that it was not immediately clear why the man was walking in the roadway.
