Families File Lawsuits Against Company for Eufaula Explosion

Posted: Updated:

A propane company in McAlester is denying wrongdoing for an explosion that killed a man in Eufaula last year.

Court records indicate that two lawsuits have been filed at the McIntosh County District Court against RAM Inc./W.E. Allford Propane for the explosion at Ford Sand Blasting. Don Hamilton was the man killed and Michael Leslie Cox was severely burned.

A report from the Associated Press states that the company is "extremely sympathetic" to the victims' families. But they also added it wasn't negligent.

Both lawsuits filed by the families of Hamilton and Cox each seek more than $1 million over the accident. The lawsuits allege that the explosion was caused by leaking propane from a tank owned and maintained by Allford Propane.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
