Stringtown Police Suspended After Speed Trap Investigation
A police department in Atoka County known for its reported speed trapping was placed on suspension this week.
Officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol made the decision to suspend the Stringtown Police Department after receiving numerous complaints. The town is located just north of Atoka.
OHP Capt. George Brown told KTUL that an investigation began after receiving the complaints. It is uncertain how long OHP was working on the investigation.
Brown added that OHP did not disband the Stringtown Police Department, because they do not have the authority to make that decision. But he believes the department could possibly close due to their inability to generate revenue.
Deputies with the Atoka County Sheriff's Office will take over enforcement in the town during the suspension.
