Mayor Dewey Bartlett has come under some criticism Tuesday after a reported quote in support of The Weather Channel.
Earlier this week about 20 million DirecTV customers nationwide lost The Weather Channel because of a dispute over fees between the channel and the satellite service.
And during the dispute The Weather Channel collected quotes and comments on their websites. One of them from Mayor Bartlett that stated:
"As Mayor, I rely on The Weather Channel for alerts and up-to-the-minute information so that I can communicate clearly and quickly with my constituents."
KTUL reached out to Bartlett's office and were told that he never "relies on a single source" for weather information. And that the comment was made a year ago when TWC was in town reporting on safe rooms.
"Obviously the official point of information is the National Weather Service as it is the key source for our emergency management operation," the statement added. "In those situations, the mayor is also in constant contact with our local emergency managers who stay well informed on weather predictions."
