Tulsa Cops Warning Residents About Mail Thieves

Tulsa authorities are reminding area residents to be aware of mail thieves this week.

Police were originally made aware of the crime after receiving word that mail was being stolen from several business complexes in Tulsa. And now they want to all residents to remain vigilant.

According to a statement from TPD, the U.S. Postal Service handles an approximate 668 million pieces of mail every day. Most of the mail arrives without an issue, but recently thieves have been getting to some of it before delivery.

TPD's Financial Crimes Unit offered some tips to keep your mail safe. They include:

   - Promptly removing mail from mailboxes after delivery

   - Contact the issuing agency if you don't receive a check or valuable mail

   - Deposit mail in a mail slot or hand it to a letter carrier

   - Inquire about a locked centralized or curbside mailboxes
